John 4:39-42
39Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me everything I ever did." 40So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41And because of his words many more became believers. 42They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world."
INTRODUCTION
The Samaritan woman was an ordinary woman with no special education or religious status yet God used her to lead many people to Christ. Today, we are going to examine how God used the Samaritan woman.
THE POWER OF TESTIMONY
39Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me everything I ever did." John 4:39
The Samaritan Woman shared about her encounter with Jesus to the people in her town. She told them that Jesus knew everything about her life. She had five husbands and the person she lived with was not her husband (John 4:16-18). The Samaritan woman’s testimony caused many people to believe in Jesus (John 4:39).
Similarly, God can use our personal testimony to draw people to Christ like the Samaritan woman. Has God done something special in your life? Take a moment to list down three things God has done in your life and begin to share them with people around you (one testimony per conversation).
THE POWER OF ENCOUNTERING JESUS
40So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41And because of his words many more became believers. 42They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world."John 4:40-42
Jesus spent two days with the Samaritan people upon their request (John 4:40). Many Samaritan people became believers after spending time listening to Jesus (John 4:41).
They believed Jesus is the Savior of the World (John 4:42). Their conversion to Christianity began with the Samaritan woman’s testimony (John 4:39) and follow by them experiencing Christ personally (John 4:42).
Faith in Christ comes from listening to God’s word (Roman 10:17) and personal experience. Thus, we need to pray for others to have a personal experience with Jesus. Ask God to touch them with His Words, presence, healing, love, peace and joy.
CONCLUSION:
Just like the Samaritan woman, we can all share a testimony of what God has done and is doing in our lives. Our testimony of God can lead people to Christ. Let us begin to look for opportunities to share our personal experiences of God with our friends, family and community.
Share how your testimonies have affected people around you?
In what areas can we pray for others to experience God? E.g. Peace, provision, health.
