HEART OF COMPASSION FOR THE LOST (PART 1)
Paul had grief and pain because his people had rejected Christ (Romans 9:1-2). He was so in tune with the Holy Spirit that his feelings were in line with God.
It breaks the heart of God when one person decides to walk away or ignore His love. Believers need to possess and express God’s heart of compassion for the lost.
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in the Holy Spirit, that I have great grief and uninterrupted pain in my heart,’ Romans 9:1-2. (Darby Bible)
Key Principle: Possess a heart of compassion for those who do not know Christ.
HEART OF SACRIFICIAL LOVE FOR THE LOST (PART 2)
Paul demonstrated his love for his people by saying he would rather be the one separated from Christ, than to see it happen to his own people (Romans 9:3).
For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off and banished from Christ for the sake of my brethren and instead of them, my natural kinsmen and my fellow countrymen.’ Romans 9:3 (The Amplified Bible).
Key Principle: Possess a heart of love for others that don’t know Christ.
HEART TO UNDERSTAND THE BLESSINGS OF GOD
Paul knew and understood the complete spiritual inheritance of his people (Romans 9:4-5). Thus, he longed for his people to experience the FULL blessings of God through Jesus Christ. God’s blessings are not limited to Jewish people only, but are for everyone (Romans 10:11-13).
Believers will have a deeper conviction for evangelism by knowing God’s promises for everyone.
‘For they are Israelites, and to them belong God’s adoption [as a nation] and the glorious Presence (Shekinah). With them were the special covenants made, to them was the Law given. To them [the temple] worship was revealed and [God’s own] promises announced. [Exod. 4:22; Hos. 11:1] To them belong the patriarchs, and as far as His natural descent was concerned, from them is the Christ, Who is exalted and supreme over all, God, blessed forever! Amen (so let it be).’ Romans 9:4-5 (The Amplified Bible).
Key Principle: Knowing and understanding God’s blessings and promises for all.
