THE GOD WHO SATISFIES

John 6:32-35

32Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

34"Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread."

35Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

INTRODUCTION:

Everyone is searching for something in life to fulfill his or her needs. The Jews were searching for Jesus to find out if He was the Messiah. Jesus told the Jews that He is sent from God to be the bread of life that satisfies their spiritual need.

GOD GIVES FULLNESS OF LIFE

32Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." (John 6:32-33)

In verse 32, Jesus used the bread fallen from heaven in the desert as a starting point to talk about God and about Himself. He corrected the Jews by telling them that Moses was not the one who gave them bread.

God gave them bread in the desert to satisfy the human hunger (Exodus 16:4). Now God is giving them the true bread in the form of a person. Jesus is the bread of God who can give life (verse 33). The Greek word for ‘life’ is ‘zoe’, which means ‘of the absolute fullness of life.

"Jesus is the bread from heaven that gives fullness of life"

God promised fullness of life when we commit ourselves to Him. Let us share to everyone about the abundant life that God is offering through Jesus Christ.

GOD GIVES SPIRITUAL FULFILLMENT

34"Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread." 35Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
(John 6:34-35)

The Jews wanted to know how to get the bread from heaven (verse 34). Jesus directed the Jews to come and believe in Him to have their spiritual hunger and thirst satisfied (verse 35). The Greek word ‘believe’ is ‘pisteuo’ which means “to place confidence in, to trust,”.

"We need to place our confident and trust in Jesus for spiritual fulfillment".

The Jews need to put their trust in Jesus and not just do good works in order to enjoy the absolute fullness of life in God. We need to tell people to believe in Jesus because only Jesus can satisfy their spiritual hunger and thirst.

CONCLUSION:

Many people in our society have physical and spiritual needs like the Jews in this passage. They are searching for ways to satisfy their needs. As Christians, we have the great opportunity to share about Christ, the bread of life that can satisfy both physical and spiritual needs.

Questions to Ponder:

What kind of needs do the people around you have?

How can you meet those needs through Christ?
